Poverty can be solved.

Education

Knowledge = choice.

Education is the master key that disrupts the vicious cycle of poverty. With greater knowledge, comes greater choice.

Mahtabe specializes in the creation of grassroots schools in communities where there are none, youth learning journeys that cultivate confidence and kindness, and issues scholarships to high achieving students for them to pursue higher education.

Infra & Innerstructure

Dignity matters a lot.

Toilets, waste-disposal systems, clean drinking water and the like — these are some of the requirements for the basic and humane functioning of any society.

Without them, public health is put at risk and, more subtly, the residents of communities where these necessities lack, feel robbed of their dignity, which often leads to various forms of illicit behavior.

Mahtabe partners with community leaders to develop needs-based initiatives that address infrastructure deficiencies and, further, sees them as opportunities to constructively engage residents to “be the change” and become catalysts of self-perpetuating community betterment.

Livelihood

A rising tide lifts all boats.

Most people living in poverty want to improve their circumstances and provide for themselves and their families in wholesome, dignified ways and may even have good ideas for how to do so.

What they lack is either education or the start-up capital needed to get started — and more than that, somebody who sees their intrinsic worth and humanity.

Mahtabe provides seed funding, as well as co-creative guidance and oversight to self-starters and entrepreneurs who are ready to work out of poverty.

Relationships of trust

The roots of generosity.

Poverty, in all its forms, traces to a deficiency of trust, which is based in the belief that there is not enough money/love/attention/care/etc. to go around.

In order for poverty to be solved, this belief must be challenged as it is simply not true. In all of our work and dealings, we aspire to build trust-based relationships to demonstrate that it is a viable, infinitely scaleable currency that societal systems can design around to ensure a world that works for everyone.
